How to Qualify for State Championships

 

GRAND SLAM GENERAL RULES:
   
   ALL Michigan Teams wanting to participate in TOURNAMENT PLAY must register online as a Tournament Team.
   League registrations will NOT be accepted for Tournament Play.

    1. NSA Rules - It is the Coach/Manager's responsibility to know the NSA Rules and bylaws.  Ignorance of any NSA rule or bylaw does NOT negate the penalty.
      NSA Rule Book with bylaws is available online 24/7 at www.playnsa.com - Select Rule Book.
    2. Hit your own Ball – NSA Approved & stamped black stitch OPTIC YELLOW .44 core/400 lb compression or less

    Ball must have a visible CORE RATING IDENTIFICATION at ALL TIMES, failure of the defensive team or umpire to identify the Core Rating of the ball it may be removed from game.

    1. Teams may participate in ONE or ALL Legs or the Grand Slam Tournament Series.  Each Grand Slam Tournament leg is a World & Regional Qualifier with Travel Money.
    2. All teams winning a Berth MUST PAY THE ENTRY FEE to the tournament within the Post Season Payment schedule listed in the NSA Bylaws.
    3. ALL TEAMS MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS to retain berth and travel money.
    4. A team must have the required number of players to start or continue a game.   Requirements are:

      a.        A team must have a minimum of nine (9), ten (10), eleven (11), or twelve (12) players with which it started the game with the exception of vacated spots where players are removed for any reasonAt no time may a team play more than ten (10) players defensively.

      b.        If a team starts with the EP’S and any player is removed, injured, or ejected from the game with no substitute to replace the removed, injured or ejected player, the vacated spot automatically becomes an out each time the vacant spot comes to bat or anytime a runner is removed from the base with no legal substitution.

      c.        When a team is left with a vacant spot in the lineup because of the removal of a player, as described in Section 4 (a), the opposing team may not with two (2) outs intentionally or unintentionally walk the previous batter, in order to get to the “automatic out” created by the vacant spot in the batting order.

      d.        If the previous batter is walked, the vacant spot in the batting order is skipped, the “automatic out” is waived, and the next batter is the player whose name follows the vacant spot in the batting order.  This only applies when there are two (2) outs.

    5. 12 Hitters are allowed – Two (2) EP’s
    6. Run Rule:              “A/B” Program – 20 after 3 & 4 Innings   ***   12 after 5 Innings
         
                               All other Divisions – 20 after 3   *   15 after 4   *   10 after 5 Innings
    1. Tournament Entry Deadline: 5:00pm Wednesday prior to tournament date.
    2. All Bats must have a BPF 1.2 stamped on the bat AND be on the Approved Equipment - Bat List for NSA sanctioned events.

    3. General Admission: This may be charged at some parks, in the form of a per person charge or parking charge.
    4. Park Policy: Every NSA Complex has their own Park rules and these rules will have to be abided by or offenders of the rules will be eliminated from the tournament and could also receive a one (1) year suspension from NSA play.
    5. Travel money is given in the form of a check, at the tournament site - for the tournament it was awarded.
      Teams MUST PARTICIPATE in the Regional Tournament to receive Regional Travel money.  Team will receive their check after participation in their first game.
      Teams MUST PARTICIPATE in the World Series to receive World Series Travel money.  Team will receive their check after participation in their first game.

    BATS:   Only NSA approved bats will be allowed.  Check the National Website for a complete 
    and 
    up to date listing of approved equipment.   www.playnsa.com  click on:  Approved Equipment
    Please check bats by Manufacturer - Model NUMBER and NAME, if a bat is not posted 
    on the
    approved list, it will NOT be allowed.
    Note: It is the coaches/player's responsibility to check their bat(s) against the NSA Approved Bat List
             PRIOR to bringing the bat(s) into play.

     ROSTERS:    CHECK THE RULE BOOK FOR A COMPLETE LISTING OF RULES REGARDING ROSTERS & Player Eligibility- Available online.

    1. All teams will complete a NSA roster on the NSA ONLINE SYSTEM.  It must be complete with all information correct.
    2. Roster checks may be done anytime during the tournament. PLAYERS MUST SHOW DRIVERS LICENSE or QUALIFIED STATE PICTURE ID.  Players are required to have photo ID at all times.
    3. Players CANNOT participate on more than one (1) roster for NSA Qualifying Tournaments.
    4. The roster has 20 spaces that can be filled at any time during the current season.
    5. PLAYER ADDITIONS deadline will be October 1st, 2008.  Teams may add 1 or 2 players after the State Tournament and before 10/1/07 for the Super Regional and World Series if they have the available space on the 20-player roster
      Players must be added to rosters prior to 10-1-07 AND the entry deadline of the tournament.
    6. When all 20 spaces have been filled at any time during the current year, the roster is FROZEN – This means NO MORE MOVES!  Players CANNOT be crossed off roster.  Injury, released players or players that quit DO NOT open spots on the roster.
      Note: New rules for teams attending NSA Super World Series can add 1 to 2 players - See Rule Book for complete rule.
    7. Released Players must have an APPROVED OFFICIAL RELEASE FORM in the State Office and be approved by State Director prior to participating with the new team.  Released players DO NOT free up space in the roster.
    8. If a Manager is a player, they must also be filled in on the player section of the roster.
    9. Added players cannot come from a World or Super World qualified roster in the current season, or from a team in a higher class.
    10. Players can only drop one (1) classification from the previous season and only if NOT on a Mandatory Move Up team - See Rule Book.
    11. Players cannot drop in classification during the current calendar season.
    12. Players can only be released one (1) time during the calendar year.
    13. Teams may re-register after all spaces all filled on their roster, BUT WILL LOSE ALL POINTS, BERTHS and TRAVEL MONEY EARNED.
    14.   Player Release Deadline is 9-1-08.   Players can only be released from teams participating in STATE or SUPER REGIONAL - AS LONG AS THE TEAM HAS NOT QUALIFIED FOR WORLDS OR SUPER WORLDS.  The Official Release Form must be submitted to & approved by the State Office prior to player being added to the new roster.
    15. Teams can be reclassified at any time due to the overall strength of the team and can be changed by the players they pick up during the season.

HOW TO QUALIFY for the Michigan Men’s STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

  1. 2008 NSA Registered Team
  2. All teams must participate in an NIT, a NSA Qualifying or a Grand Slam Tournament.

* Winners of the Men’s "B" - Men’s "C" - Men's "D" - Men's "E" State Championships will receive a berth to their respective 
SUPER WORLD SERIES Tournament and to validate the berth MUST PARTICIPATE in either the Super Regional and/or World Series Tournaments.
 
NEW for 2008: Men’s B, C, D and E SUPER WORLD BERTHS from the State Championships CAN BE PASSED DOWN until accepted.
